Richards Bay FC maintained their top spot in the league. The Kwazulu-Natal side beat Baroka FC 4-0 at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Durban on Wednesday to go top of the PSL play-off series.
Richards Bay were looking to retain their Premier League status, while Baroka were aiming to return to the top flight for the first time since the 2021/22 season. The hosts showed their intent early in the match, but Sanele Barns’ tackle in the box was a big disappointment.
Richards Bay looked threatening in attack but they missed another chance. Baroka also had a great chance to break the deadlock, but two players missed a seat in the box. And the home side had another decent chance at the other end but failed to capitalize.
Richards Bay had another chance to open the scoring a few minutes later, but Somila Ntsundwana failed to capitalize on a nice pass from Yanele Mbutuma. The hosts finally got the point when a nice move inside the box led to a stunning goal from Ntsundwana in the 36th minute.
And it wasn’t too long before the Natal Rich Boyz doubled their lead. Sanele Barns free kick unfortunately hit a Baroque player. The visitors started the second half in search of a goal early on, but the Richards Bay defender snuffed out the threat.
At this point, Natal Rich Boys threatened to score a third goal, but Barns’ first touch let him down.
Richards Bay swarmed their opponents and although a second shot narrowly missed, the home side were not to be denied a few minutes later.
Ntsundwana dived past the defender and scored his second goal of the match.
And Richards Bay put the final nail in the coffin six minutes after Lwandile Mabuya produced a stunning move in the box to secure a deserved win and maintain their Dstv Premiership status.
