Key Performance Areas – SMU Laboratory Assistant
Duties SMU
- Preparation of skills physiotherapy gymnasium and human nutrition laboratories for practical lectures and assessments
- Maintain all skills physiotherapy gymnasium venues, equipment, and assets in working condition
- Schedule equipment maintenance and manage stock control for lab consumables
- Monitor storage areas for chemicals, ingredients, and lab materials
- Clean skills physiotherapy gymnasium and nutrition labs when required per SOPs
- Assist with stocktaking and inventory management for department resources
- Undertake basic administrative tasks including filing, record keeping, data capture
- Support overall objectives of SMU and contribute to improving institutional culture
- Adhere to Standard Operating Procedures SOPs and safety protocols at all times
- Assist students and staff during practical sessions and assessments
Minimum Requirements – SMU Laboratory Assistant 2026
- Education: Matric/Grade 12 certificate compulsory
- Experience: Minimum 6 months working experience in practical/skills human nutrition laboratory OR physiotherapy gymnasium environment
- Computer Skills: Computer literacy with sound knowledge of MS Word, MS Excel, MS Teams
- Knowledge: Sound knowledge of adhering to Standard Operating Procedures SOPs
- Skills: Technical/professional knowledge, quality commitment, planning + organizing
- Interpersonal: Building relationships, communication written + verbal, client/student service
- Personal: Adaptability, learning attitude, safety awareness, team player
