Introduction

A position has become available for a Buyer to join our dynamic team.

Position Purpose / Objective:

The buyer is responsible for identifying and procuring the goods and services required by the organization. They find service providers who can supply the required goods and services, negotiate for prices, and arrange for the purchase and delivery of the goods whilst ensuring that all transactions are in the best interest of Astec Industries.

Duties & Responsibilities

Sourcing

Sourcing raw materials and bought out items which meet requirements in terms of manufacturing drawing specification, quality, price, and delivery lead time both locally and internationally.

Verifying if orders placed have a valid demand.

Ensuring that all orders are placed within 48 working hours of demand being confirmed.

Providing timeous feedback to all role-players.

Supply Chain Optimization

Pursuing new and / or alternative sources of supply to improve reliability of supplies, improve quality of products, shorten delivery lead times, and reduce costs.

Identifying opportunities for medium to long term contracts and implementing them.

Negotiating supplier agreements to ensure favorable terms for Astec Industries.

Researching and negotiating prices which deliver value for money.

Proposing alternatives to a specified supplier and obtain engineering authorization to change where required.

Supplier Management

Measuring and managing supplier performance within established parameters.

Ascertain required delivery for items and align PO delivery to required delivery.

Ensuring that supplier quality performance adheres to Astec Industries Requirements.

Ensuring that the BBBEE targets on the Procurement pillar of the BBBEE scorecard are met.

Ensuring full compliance to the Astec and Astec Industries Code of Conduct in terms of items relevant to procurement.

Reporting and tracking of project as assigned

Desired Experience & Qualification

Qualifications:

NQF level 6 or higher in Supply Chain related field of study.

Experience:

At least 5 years’ experience in buying/procurement.

Previous experience of materials management within heavy engineering / manufacturing environment would be an advantage.

Experience in strategic sourcing and negotiation.

Character:

The Buyer will be a visible leader for change within the organization so strong effective communication skills, integrity and interpersonal skills are essential.

Computer Proficiency:

Intermediate Microsoft Excel, Power Point and Word skills.

A solid understanding of the procurement module on an ERP system.

Exposure to Microsoft AX Dynamics would be highly advantageous.

Other:

Understanding of Supply Chain principles Understand and display an ability to procure within the parameters of a Quality Control Plan.

Ability to develop and implement SLA with suppliers.

The candidate must be accessible after hours to assist the customer with urgent needs for example break downs etc.
