Desired Experience & Qualification
Job Function
To manage a logistics function consisting of multiple accounts, thereby ensuring the achievement of budget, savings, profits, compliance with service level conditions, sound relationships with all the stakeholders (including internal customers) and overall growth and sustainability of the operation.
Key performance areas
Ensure that all vehicles are licensed & roadworthy and maintained according to requirements:
- Ensure that all vehicles are clean and aesthetic, all auxiliary equipment and systems, e.g. Fleetboard, Fuelmaster, etc. are fitted and working
- Optimize the utilisation of all staff and vehicles through proper planning, scheduling, controlling and maintenance of vehicles
- Achieve budgeted Revenue and Profit targets
- Manage costs in line with budgets e.g. salaries, fuel consumption, labour broker/casual costs, vehicle R&M, rental, fines, penalties, cell phones etc.
- Ensure that the department complies with all relevant financial processes and control procedures e.g. data capturing and expense authorization and that all required reports are submitted timeously
- Ensure that insurance claim documentation is completed and submitted timeously
- Deliver Key Performance Indicators and Score Cards to all clients
- Establish and maintain sound relationships with all customers and staff
- Maintain a neat, clean, tidy, safe and healthy work area and comply with environmental and occupational health and safety standards and legal requirements, such as ensuring that all safety appointments are done, safety meetings are held, registers are maintained, safety inspections take place and accidents and incidents are investigated and closed out
- Ensure that all employees receive Safety training annually
- Responsible for Human Capital management in the department and for the management and co-ordination of all direct reports
- Ensure that agreed numbers of motivated, suitably competent, committed employees with valid licenses are available at all required times
- Performance Management (performance documented, reviews & feedback done, PDP’s implemented) bi-annually
- Ensure that shift and duty rosters are in place and working and that all employees comply with statutory working hours and with the Company’s leave and sick leave policies and standards
- Deliver the department’s EE and Skills Development targets
Qualifications, Skills and Experience required
- Grade 12.
- A tertiary qualification in Transport/Logistics management will be an advantage \
- At least five (5) years’ operational experience at management level in a road freight company
- Knowledge of vehicle and equipment technology, specifications & application
- Working knowledge of all relevant Legislation and Regulations
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Computer literate (Outlook/Excel/Word/Database/SAP).
- Understanding the Company’s management systems, policies and procedures
- Ability to initiate and chair disciplinary hearings, facilitate meetings and conduct interviews
