Chiefs have just confirmed their new captain and he is set to replace another legend, Parker.
Many Amakhosi legends have come and gone in recent seasons. Therefore, it is fitting that one of their last standing legends has been confirmed as their new captain…
Itumeleng Khune has been appointed as the current Amakhosi captain, according to Meaning, he is set to return to regular action and gametime after hardly featuring in the last two seasons. Last season, he played the least he has ever played in a season.
Now, if he is maintained as captain when Amakhosi confirm their final squad, then he will start every game that he is fit to compete in.
All that we know is that Khune has been the interim captain since Parker left. Leading his side out in training sessions as Amakhosi prepare for the new season. This is a worrying sign for Brandon Peterson and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma.
Both men enjoyed opportunities under Arthur Zwane and Dillon Sheppard.
Peterson seemed to have established himself as the new regular first-choice keeper. That is until Khune was confirmed as club captain for the training sessions. There is a possibility that he is just the captain for the pre-season training due to his vast PSL experience. Only time will tell.
Bvuma was given a couple of starts to – something he needs if he is to series compete for his position in the Bafana squad.
He needs gametime if he is going to play in the 2023 AFCON. For now, Khune, one of the last Amakhosi legend standing, is in charge of Chiefs.
