Job Title: Police Trainee
Remuneration:
– Stipend: R4,500 per month during the Institution Phase
– Salary notch: R216,033 per annum during the Probation Phase
Basic Police Development Learning Programme (BPDLP):
The BPDLP is a 21-month training program consisting of three phases:
– Induction Phase: One month at a designated police station
– Basic Training Phase: Eight months at a designated SAPS Academy
– Probation Phase: 12 months of Workplace Exposure Programme
Requirements:
– Permanent residence in South Africa
– Grade 12 school certificate or equivalent
– Valid driving license (advantageous)
– Proficiency in English and one other official language
– Age: 18-35 years
– No previous criminal convictions
– Willingness to undergo medical examination and psychological assessment
Selection Process:
– Fitness, psychometric, and integrity testing
– Medical evaluation and interview
– Verification of qualifications, driver’s license, citizenship, and residential address
– Vetting process, including security screening and fingerprint verification

Note: The closing date for applications was 31 August 2025. However, the SAPS has announced that the second batch of 5,500 recruits will commence training in January 2025.¹
