Main Purpose of the Job

To assess incoming emergency calls and coordinate emergency vehicle dispatch using the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system to ensure timeous response to all incidents. You will assist in receiving, prioritizing, and logging emergency and non-emergency calls, then determine the appropriate level of EMS assistance needed to be dispatched. Every second counts in this role.

Key Responsibilities

• Dispatch emergency vehicles immediately via CAD system based on call priority
• Monitor vehicle locations, response times, and crew availability in real-time
• Assist in receiving, prioritizing, logging, and processing all emergency and non-emergency calls
• Determine appropriate level of EMS response: BLS, ALS, or air ambulance
• Maintain constant radio communication with paramedics and ambulance crews
• Provide basic contact centre administration and accurate data capturing
• Coordinate with hospitals, fire services, and SAPS during multi-agency incidents

Required Education

• Essential: Grade 12 / Matric Certificate – No degree required
• Desired: BAA / Level 3 First Aid Certification for EMS knowledge advantage

Required Experience

• Essential: Contact Centre or Emergency Contact Centre exposure
• Desired: 1-3 years hands-on dispatching experience in EMS contact centre environment
• CAD system experience will be a major advantage but full training provided

Required Skills & Knowledge

Technical: Computer literate Microsoft Office, CAD dispatching systems, Vehicle tracking, Typing skills 35+ WPM
EMS Knowledge: Emergency Care basics, Understanding of BLS/ALS levels, Geographic knowledge of Gauteng/JHB roads
