Position Summary | Grocery Floor Manager
The Grocery Floor Manager is responsible for managing all resources within the grocery department to ensure compliance with company standards, regulations, and SOPs. You will set plans and follow up to achieve daily, weekly, and monthly targets and deadlines. This is a full-time permanent position requiring strong leadership, inventory management skills, and customer orientation. You will manage direct reports, oversee merchandising, and ensure the grocery section runs efficiently from back-up area to sales floor. Grade 12 is the minimum requirement, with 2-4 years relevant retail or inventory experience needed to succeed in this demanding role at Vangate Mall.
Key Responsibilities | Grocery Floor Manager
Merchandising Management
- Execute plano guide 100% to maintain visual standards and maximize sales space
- Rotate stock as per policy and SOP on sales floor and back-up area to ensure freshness
- Ensure department merchandising and cleanliness standards are maintained at all times
- Follow standards set down for promotional space and promotional communications
- Ensure back-up area standards maintained – all stock must be represented on the floor
- Elevate any continuing stock issues to Store Manager for resolution
- Ensure department follows Health & Safety standards and processes as per SOP
- Understand customer needs and communicate insights to demand planning team
Systems & Inventory Management
- Perform gap scanning to identify out-of-stock items quickly
- Identify, count, and record out-of-stocks and over-stocks accurately
- Draw Excel reports from SAP, communicate stock concerns, and send updates to Demand Planning
- Process IDTs via SAP system according to company procedures
- Action reduced-to-clear items on SAP as per SOP to minimize waste
- Check electronic communications regularly during the working day for updates
Customer Service Management
- Handle customer complaints and special customer requests professionally
- Advise customers on products, promotions, and availability to improve shopping experience
- Maintain customer orientation and ensure service standards are met on the floor
People Management & Development
- Evaluate performance of direct reports against agreed objectives and standards
- Review staffing requirements and provide input into staff scheduling
- Keep staff informed of new initiatives, store and department performance
- Keep staff motivated through coaching, recognition, and clear communication
- Identify training needs and coach staff and junior management for development
Finance & Administration
- Ensure all equipment is properly maintained in effective working order
- Ensure general maintenance standards are met in department
- Follow up and control departmental expenses to stay within budget
- Monitor results and investigate deviations to budget, taking corrective action
- Monitor waste levels and ensure waste reduction procedures are adhered to
Minimum Requirements | Grocery Floor Manager
Education: Matric / Grade 12 certificate is essential.
Experience: 2-4 years relevant retail or inventory experience in grocery/FMCG environment. Must have proven experience managing stock, staff, and targets.
Skills: Strong computer skills including SAP and MS Excel. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in fast-paced retail environment.
