Job Purpose for Train Driver Surface
To rail transport ore and material in the area of responsibility in order to achieve Safe Quality daily set objectives. You will operate surface locomotives to transport ore, personnel and material according to safety standards and procedures.
Minimum Required Qualification for Train Driver Surface
- Level 4: Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate
- National Certificate Level 4 GET Education, Training and Development
- Train Driver Certificate – Essential
- Surface Railways Rule Book knowledge
- 1-3 years experience for external candidates
- Medically fit to work in mining environment
- Clear security screening record
Key Responsibilities for Train Driver Surface
Rail Operations
- Perform physical pre-use inspection on equipment: brakes, warning device, electrical connections, emergency stops
- Complete checklist and report deficiencies to supervisor
- Operate Surface Locomotive to transport ore, personnel and material per standards
- Maintain Safety, Health and Environmental practices
- Perform end of shift procedures: park and lock out loco, hand keys at designated location
- Report shift activities to Supervisor
SHE + Quality + People
- Maintain and comply with SHE standards and participate in risk assessments
- Comply with Quality Management System requirements
- Focus on safety, health and operational excellence
- Provide coaching and on-the-job training to reporting staff if applicable
- Manage performance and ensure fair work allocation
Additional Requirements for Train Driver Surface
Building relationships with stakeholders, adhering to cost saving initiatives, aligning to international responsible mining principles, eTfS initiative for SA PGM Operations. Pre-screening and psychometric evaluation may form part of selection process.
