Position Summary of Adherence Consultant PBQ Dis-Chem Midrand

This permanent position is based at the Dis-Chem Head Office Adherence Centre in Midrand, Gauteng. As an Adherence Consultant PBQ, your main purpose is to provide patient-ready parcel services by calling patients monthly and processing their medication orders. You will work strictly in accordance with operational guidelines and regulatory requirements of the South African Pharmacy Council. This role is perfect for a Post Basic Pharmacist Assistant who has strong telephone skills, attention to detail, and passion for patient care. You will be the main point of contact for patients managing chronic conditions like diabetes, hypertension, HIV, and other long-term illnesses. The role requires computer literacy, Unisolv system experience, and ability to work in a high-volume call center environment.

Key Responsibilities / Job Specification / Adherence Consultant PBQ Dis-Chem Midrand

Your daily duties as Adherence Consultant will include:

  • Patient Contact: Correctly utilise and manage the Adherence Centre telephone according to procedures. Contact patients or their representatives monthly to confirm medication needs. Clearly explain the purpose of the call and maintain professional telephone etiquette at all times.
  • Order Processing: Accurately interpret medicine history and process orders as confirmed by the patient. Update all necessary information on the patient profile in Unisolv system. Ensure data accuracy for dispensing and delivery.
  • Medical Aid Claims: Ensure accurate claim submission to medical aids. Advise patients of any rejections, co-payments, or out-of-pocket expenses. Keep updated on medical aid procedures and authorization requirements for chronic medication.
  • Profile Management: Ensure all profile statuses are updated correctly with correct action reasons. Make concise notes on the system regarding special patient requirements, allergies, or delivery instructions.
  • Patient Support: Advise and assist patients regarding medical aid authorization procedures for chronic medication. Follow up on feedback requested by patients. Provide information patients need as Dis-Chem customers.
  • Error Correction: Contact dispensary to correct any errors on scripts. Ensure authorization of chronic medication before processing. Request UCS to merge profiles centrally when duplicates exist.
  • Administration & Reporting: Ensure all Adherence Centre administration is up to date for reporting and auditing purposes. Report customer discrepancies and system issues to management. Provide regular reports on Adherence Centre matters.
  • Compliance: Work according to SAPC regulations and Dis-Chem standard operating procedures. Maintain confidentiality of patient information at all times.

Minimum Requirements of Adherence Consultant PBQ Dis-Chem Midrand

Education: Grade 12 Matric or Senior Certificate is essential. Pharmacist Assistant Post Basic Qualification PBA is essential.

Registration: Must be registered and in good standing with the South African Pharmacy Council SAPC. Proof of registration required.

Experience: Minimum 5 years relevant experience in pharmacy environment. Must have experience using Unisolv dispensing system. Computer literate with MS Office package.

Advantageous: Previous customer care experience in call centre or pharmacy environment. Knowledge of medical aid procedures and chronic medication management.

Competencies Required

Essential: Knowledge gained as Post Basic qualified pharmacist assistant. Excellent telephone etiquette and communication skills. English + 2nd language read, write and speak fluently. Strong listening skills and customer service focus. Problem-solving skills for patient queries. Team player with professional conduct, trustworthy and reliable.

Advantageous: 3rd language spoken will be an advantage due to diverse patient base.

Special Conditions of Employment for Adherence Consultant PBQ Dis-Chem Midrand

Must be a South African citizen. Clear MIE, criminal and credit record required. Own reliable transport needed for Midrand location. Must maintain active registration with Pharmacy Council.
