Position Summary

Clicks Promenade Mall is hiring 5 permanent Shop Assistants / Cashiers to strengthen the front-end operations. This role is customer-facing and plays a key part in delivering service excellence at the point of sale. You will handle transactions, engage with customers, promote the Clicks Clubcard, and maintain store standards. The position is ideal for energetic individuals with Grade 12 who enjoy working with people. Previous retail experience is not mandatory because Clicks provides full training on POS systems, cash handling, and customer service. However, candidates with FMCG or retail background will have an advantage.

Key Responsibilities / Job Objectives | Shop Assistant Cashier x5

As a Shop Assistant / Cashier at Clicks Promenade Mall, your daily duties will include:

• POS & Transactions: Efficiently execute all operational activities at the point of sale. Scan merchandise accurately, process payments via cash, card, or mobile, and issue receipts quickly to reduce queues during peak hours.
• Accuracy & Cash Handling: Maintain high levels of accuracy when scanning items and collecting payment. Ensure safe handling of cash, perform till counts, and follow all cash control procedures to prevent losses.
• Clubcard Enrollment: Proactively promote the Clicks Clubcard loyalty program. Explain benefits to customers and enroll new members to help the store achieve monthly participation targets.
• Customer Experience: Deliver superior customer service by being visible, approachable, and professional. Greet every customer, offer assistance, and ensure they “feel good and pay less” after shopping.
• Promotions: Stay informed about weekly specials, seasonal promotions, and new product launches. Communicate these offers to customers at the till to drive sales.
• Merchandising & Housekeeping: Support visual merchandising standards by keeping shelves full, neat, and correctly faced. Assist with general housekeeping to maintain a clean and safe store environment.
• Product Knowledge: Learn about health, beauty, and wellness products sold at Clicks. Use this knowledge to answer customer questions and recommend products confidently.
• Team Support: Work closely with supervisors and other cashiers to meet daily sales and service targets. Support the Group’s values of care, passion, integrity, and excellence.

Knowledge & Skills Required | Shop Assistant Cashier x5

Knowledge: Basic maths for discounts and change. Understanding of retail/FMCG operations, merchandising principles, and stock management. Knowledge of customer service excellence and how to handle customer complaints professionally.

Skills: Planning and organising skills to manage busy tills. Problem-solving skills for refunds and queries. Strong customer orientation and communication skills in English. Computer literacy to operate the POS system. Numeracy skills for accurate cash handling and balancing.

Competencies | Shop Assistant Cashier x5

Essential: Relating and networking with diverse customers. Following instructions and store procedures without fail. Delivering consistent results and meeting customer expectations even during busy periods like month-end.

Desirable: Working well with a team. Persuading customers to join Clubcard. Planning your shift tasks effectively. Coping with pressure during Black Friday, festive season, and month-end rush.

Minimum Requirements | Shop Assistant Cashier x5

Education: Grade 12 certificate is essential. Maths 50% and English 50% at Grade 12 level is desirable but not a requirement.

Experience: No experience needed. Desirable: Experience in a customer-facing retail or FMCG store environment. Clicks will train the right attitude.

Other: Must be available to work retail shifts including weekends, public holidays, and late nights. Must support Clicks employment equity policies.
