Minimum Requirements for Usher Jobs 2026
- Grade 12 certificate – Compulsory requirement
- Friendly disposition with sound interpersonal skills
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Fluency in English + at least one other official South African language
- Ability to work well under pressure
- Can work independently and as part of team
- Alertness and quick thinking in emergency situations
- Strong sense of customer service
- Flexibility to work according to Baxter Theatre operational hours including evenings, weekends, public holidays
Advantageous Skills
- Previous working experience in hospitality industry
- Previous experience in theatre or events industry
- Customer service experience in retail or restaurants
Duties and Responsibilities
Usher successful candidates will assist Front of House staff and patrons at Baxter Theatre Centre by performing:
Customer Service Duties
- Scanning admission tickets at entrance points
- Ensuring patrons are seated timeously and in correct venue
- Assisting patrons to find their seats before shows
- Helping patrons locate facilities: restaurant, bar, toilets, exits
- Assisting patrons with special needs as and when required
- Resolving seating disputes and other patrons’ concerns professionally
- Guiding patrons to exits or entrances during and after performances
Safety and Operations
- Ensuring public safety during events and emergencies
- Monitoring aisles and auditoriums during performances
- Assisting with crowd control and emergency evacuations if needed
- Maintaining professional appearance and conduct at all times
